An American Success Story

As a first generation immigrant Nick Kriadis realized the great American dream was available to anyone who was willing to take a risk and work hard.  So after spending several years in the industry he decided to strike out on his own.  While the going was difficult at the beginning, with his wife Dee by his side, he never gave up on his dream and managed to turn a wish into a reality. 

Founded in 1969 on the south side of Chicago, Hobart Electronics was originally set up to serve the Chicago land market which at the time was primarily coils.  The company operated in Chicago for a few years when an opportunity to expand into a better suited facility in Northwest Indiana opened up in 1972.  At that time Hobart Electronics was moved to an unincorporated area of Lake County Indiana just outside of Hobart, Indiana. 

Moved to the Present Location:

In 1983 Hobart acquired an entire city block and built the building which the company resides in to this day.  This 30,000 facility was designed and built to meet the specific needs of our company.  It houses our corporate headquarters which includes Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, Administrative, as well as Production, Warehouse, and Machining.

Opened a Mexico Facility

Realizing the need to offer its customers the broadest range of sourcing solutions, Hobart Electronics opened a second facility in Mexico in 1993.  This facility, approximately 40,000 square feet is located approximately one hour north of Monterrey, Mexico in a town called Agualeguas.

Converted to 100% Cellular Manufacturing

At the urging of one of its largest customers, Hobart Electronics embarked on the journey toward World Class Manufacturing practices.  Switching from a traditional batch style of manufacturing to a one piece flow was no small task.  Yet with perseverance the transition proved to be successful in reducing costs, improving quality, reducing lead times, and reducing the required footage required to build product.

Working with China

The inevitable push towards China never escaped the vision of this company.  So in 2001 strategic alliances were formed in China to support its existing and ever expanding list of customers.  By offering domestic support and China production Hobart is able to offer its customers the best of both worlds.
